The Anderson County Chapter's Annual meeting is planned for July 23rd Please call or email the office for more details.
Anderson County's Celebration include's an Open House and Open-air Concert "The Red Cross is about saving lives," said Dianna Claiborne, Chapter Manager. "We help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year that included responding to 16 local house fires. The Chapter equipped over 800 people to prevent and respond to personal and natural emergencies with disaster preparedness, CPR, first aid, water safety, and lifeguard training." This year, we have already responded to 26 house fires because we now cover Freestone County for disaster services as well. We have grown from approximately 130 volunteers to well over 200 partially due to addition of Freestone County but also because of new American Red Cross Clubs organized in the local school districts.click here for ARC Clubs Picture page The Chapter has also expanded the Health and Safety Training Program by training more instructors, especially in the area of safety in industry. The Workplace Training Program is very effective and is an informative tool now available for local industry to utilize. The topics covered in the Workplace Training Program include: CPR/First Aid, Preventing Back Injuries, Preventing Disease Transmission, and HIV/Aids Prevention and Awareness. The Anderson County chapter invites area residents to learn about our humanitarian services and to join our community efforts by becoming a volunteer for the local Disaster Team, ARC School Club sponser, CPR/First Aid Instructor, or financial supporter of the Anderson County American Red Cross. All profits of TY, Inc., from this product will go to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Foundation for AIDS research. Elizabeth's husband, Paul Glaser, starred on the show Starskey and Hutch. Paul discovered that Elizabeth, their daughter Ariel and son Jake were all HIV infected. Elizabeth had contracted HIV virus from a blood transfusion; consequently, their children were born with the virus.
Elizabeth passed away in 1994, and Ariel passed away at 5 in 1988.
A drawing that Ariel had sketched and colored when she was 5 inspired the design of the bear.
More about this story at www.pedaids.org Our Chapter is proud to extend the opportunity for you to support research to fight HIV/AIDS by the purchase of this in Elizabeth and Ariel's memory. New Gift Shop Opens
